"The goal of Youth Church is to create and inspire disciples in a lifelong, joyous dialogue with the Great Teacher, Christ." - Fr. Simon
Once, when I was visiting our catechism classes, the looks on the faces of the children said it all: "It's nine in the morning. We've been imprisoned in boring classrooms for most of the week. It's Sunday when normal people are sleeping in, and here we are in another boring classroom. We hate this. We hate church and we can't wait until we don't have to do this anymore". I decided things had to change. My goal was to design a program that a kid would actually want to attend and be disappointed to miss. Joy is the sure sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit. A program that includes play and laughter and art is a much better way to bring people into a lifelong relationship with the Lord and the Church. Also, a sacrament is a lifelong commitment to the Lord. Sitting in a boring classroom in order to qualify for some rite of passage has little to do with a vibrant committed faith. The goal of Youth Church is to create and inspire disciples in a lifelong, joyous dialogue with the Great Teacher, Christ. – Fr. Simon

How does our home-school program works?
At baptism, the blessing of the parents prays that they will be the first teachers of their children in the faith. Our first communion program is designed to fulfill that promise. How does it work? We provide learning materials and a mentor to help mom and dad teach their children at home. The home-school program is a wonderful way to put faith at the heart of the family and to start a conversation that will last a lifetime.
I decided to create a home school course for first communion because I saw many parents dropping their children off for Mass and religion class without going to Mass themselves. They seemed uninvolved in the life of the church and the spiritual lives of their children, but they wanted their children to "get" the sacraments. The sacraments are meant to bring about union with the Lord, and this didn't seem to be happening in most cases. After the ceremony of First Communion or Confirmation neither parent nor child would be seen again. What was the point? First Communion and Confirmation were a kind of graduation. "Been there. Done that". The sacraments are a beginning, not and end. When the parents become the teachers, they become disciples themselves, which is what the Lord asked when he said to make disciples of all nations. – Fr. Simon

The Confirmation-Prep Seminar meeting time and place, please call the parish office for more information. You must be a registered parishioner and you must attend Holy Mass and Youth Church regularly.
When one is confirmed, he commits himself to live the life of Christ's follower. How can you commit yourself to something with which you have only a nodding acquaintance question? The goal of the confirmation seminar is to establish a basic knowledge of the story told in the Scriptures and an understanding of the idea and practice of Catholic Christianity, to which those to be confirmed are going to commit themselves by a solemn oath.
During confirmation, I, as pastor, am asked to certify that all those to be confirmed are actually ready for the sacrament. I am embarrassed to admit, in the past, I have had caused to worry about the readiness of a class or an individual. I have seen students confirmed who unfortunately never return to Mass. So, I decided to teach the class myself and personally accompany the students on their adventure, establishing the real pastoral relationship that can make a difference. - Fr. Simon.

Although studying and learning is essential to the disciple, it is important to rest, rejoice, and be merry. With this in mind, we began Family Day, our community activity day. Family Day is an opportunity to enjoy what we are learning together, to make friendships that will create a real church family, to spend time together in prayer, and of course, to have fun!
Join us year round every third Sunday in Trainor Hall for a potluck dinner and activities, Arts & Crafts, games dancing, service projects, family movies and sing a-longs, just to name a few. Youth Mass every 3rd Sunday at 5 pm.
St. Lambert's Youth Group (S.L.Y.) is an organization of adolescents and young adults, eighth grade through college and beyond, who have formed a Catholic-based family that pray, participate in Parish community, have fun and become better Christians together.
S.L.Y meets every Sunday at 1:00 pm (following the 12:00 Noon Holy Mass) in the school building Room 206. That's 2nd Floor of the South Building connected to the Church.
We watch movies, go camping, go Christmas Caroling, have picnics and retreats and most importantly, talk and interact. Come join us in the pool table room, 2nd Floor of the South Building, St Lambert Campus.
